Facts and figures

Bosch is one of the world’s major centers for research and development. It’s the cradle of new high-tech products, from efficient automotive components and better power tools to sophisticated navigation and monitoring systems. From the initial concept to large-scale production, our researchers have a hand in the process. So it’s not surprising that Bosch is increasing its investment in Research and Development. And that’s equally true in staffing and in the financial budget.

To remain at the leading edge of technology and continue our growth, we invest heavily in research and development every year. The figure in 2007 was 3.6 billion euros, or 7.7 % of our sales revenue.

In 2007, the researchers and developers at Bosch were particularly inventive when it came to creating new products, processes, and technologies. Worldwide, the company applied for 3,280 patents, up 7 % on the previous year. About 40% of which were dedicated to environmental protection and resource conservation.

Around the world, we have more than 29,000 research and development associates whose task is to drive forward technological advances. Corporate Research (CR) consolidates research activities throughout the Bosch Group. 1,300 employees conduct research projects in six research sectors for the Bosch divisions and clients in the public sector.
